Every hero you collect carries a rarity, and it is the first thing you see on their card. It is also the most misread label in the game: rarity tells you how much a hero brings, not what they are for. This guide covers what each rarity changes, and how the current roster splits across the three.

The three rarities
Heroes come in three rarities. In ascending order they are Rare, Epic, and Mythic.
What changes between them is the size of a hero's kit:
- Rare heroes carry two Conquest skills and two Expedition skills.
- Epic heroes add a third Conquest skill.
- Mythic heroes carry three of each, and they are the only heroes with exclusive gear.
Notice what is not on that list. Rarity does not decide a hero's troop type, and it does not lock a hero out of a role. An Epic archer is still an archer, and a Rare infantry hero still gets the full benefit of your infantry research.

The split is worth a second look. Epic is the widest band by some distance, so most of the heroes you meet early will be Epic, and most of your day-to-day marches will be led by one.
Troop types are spread across the roster rather than clustered in one rarity: five infantry heroes, five lancers, and six archers. Whatever you are training, there is a hero of that type at more than one rarity.
The four Mythics
Two infantry, one lancer, one archer. If you are pulling for a Mythic, that spread matters more than the rarity badge: a second infantry Mythic does nothing for the archer march you were planning to build.
What the extra skill slot buys
Skills split into two sets. Conquest skills apply when your hero leads troops; Expedition skills apply to gathering, production, and the rest of your day-to-day map work. Here is a Mythic's full kit:

The third Expedition slot is what separates Mythic from Epic. That is also why Mythic heroes tend to earn their place off the battlefield as much as on it: an extra Expedition skill works every hour of every day, whether or not you are marching.
Where rarity stops mattering
Rarity is a ceiling, not a result. A Mythic hero you have barely invested in brings less to a march than an Epic you have grown. And no amount of rarity fixes a mismatch: sending an archer hero with an infantry-heavy march wastes most of what that hero offers.
So read rarity as "how much this hero can eventually carry," then pick by troop type and by what you actually do in a given week. For how the troop types themselves work, see the troop types guide.
